In 2020, a foundation wall on the Ovenstown building washed out due to record-setting rains. The building was subsequently demolished. Utilities to the site were relocated to the opposite side of the road, and some rough landscaping was done to make the area serviceable for the 2021 season. This year, we’re now able to complete the clean-up of the former Ovenstown site and make a few additional improvements on the grounds.

Five loads of top soil were delivered to the Museum on Thursday, June 30. We are sending our sincere thanks and appreciation to these generous community members: Rick Bullerwell and Veikle Agro Inc. for the soil; the R.M of Cut Knife for trucking it in, and the Town of Cut Knife for spreading it for us.

The soil will be used to finish up the Ovenstown site, top up the trenching, fill up some low spots, and add some good soil for flowers around the Duvall House. The Museum is going to shine!

MUSEUM WORKER NEEDED FOR JULY & AUGUST

Duties include:

  • Giving Tours
  • Cleaning Exhibit Buildings & Displays
  • Assisting with Grounds Keeping
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Museum Administrator or Board of Directors

Hours: Wednesday through Sunday 10am – 4pm
Wages: To be determined based on experience

Please note applicants do not need to be within a certain age group or returning to an educational program in the fall.

Thank you Spring Cleaners!

Clayton McLain Memorial Museum

When we say “volunteers power the museum,” we mean it. Yesterday’s ‘Spring Cleaning’ work bee is a really good example. One crew cleaned out and cleaned up the Transportation / Machinery shed while a second crew dusted and freshened up the Station House and Raymond’s Store.

To clean up the back of the shed, a few of the artifacts had to be moved out of the way.

13 people, some with trucks and trailers to haul garbage to the Transfer Station, others with buckets and dust cloths to tidy up displays, were on site for 2 – 3 hours to help ready the CMMM for its July 6 opening. There’s still some work to do but these are big items to have already checked off the list.

Many, many thanks to everyone who came out Saturday morning. You’ve lightened the load for us this year! This note from Angie, “A HUGE “Thank You” to all from me! I greatly appreciate it!” And, so does the Board.

Call for Quilts from Cut Knife Area

Clayton McLain Memorial Museum

UPDATE: Quilters: Drop off quilts and quilted items at the Duvall House on the Museum grounds between 9 – 11am. Pick-up between 4-4:30pm. Please label all quilts with name of owner and phone number. Thank you!

The Clayton McLain Memorial Museum will be working with Terri Paziuk to host a Quilt Walk on the grounds and along the walking path to the Tomahawk. We have tentatively scheduled the event for Sunday, July 17, 2022, weather permitting.

Quilts will need to be labelled with the owner’s name and phone number and the maker’s name, if not the same as the owner’s. Also, if you know the year the quilt was made, please include that on the label.

If you’d like to share your quilt or quilted items with Museum visitors for an afternoon, please text Terri Paziuk at 306-398-7634 OR email the Museum at cmmmcutknife@gmail.com to arrange for drop off of your items in advance of the event.

The Museum will be opening for the season on Wednesday, July 6. Hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, from 10am – 4pm.
