The Town of Cut Knife is celebrating Canada Day 2024 with a full slate of activities taking place around town and in Tomahawk Park. The day begins with the Parade and will finish off with Fireworks.
The Poundmaker Indigenous Performance Festival was established in 2018 by organizer Floyd Favel. Originally a celebration of the talent and diversity of local Indigenous performers, it has expanded to include Indigenous cultures and diverse theatre practices from around the world. 2024’s program hasn’t yet been released, but last year’s festival included a Greek tragedy, cultural lectures, Plains Indian sign language workshops, and performances of poetry and spoken word.
“I went to school in Denmark and Italy working in the realm of theatre as a writer and as a director, but I moved back to my community in the 1990s”… He has also written a few books and produced two films on the Delmas Residential School.
On June 19, Favel will be awarded the 2024 Saskatchewan Award of Merit for “his commitment to helping to revive the arts, culture and language in his Poundmaker Cree Nation community.” Read more from Battlefords Now.
Floyd Favel asked the CMMM to share this year’s Festival poster, and we are happy to do so. We encourage everyone to check out the program once it’s available and make plans to attend a performance or lecture. If last year is any indication, there’ll be something for everyone!

Your artist statement is an opportunity to explain the background and process of the work you are including on your art gallery submissions. There is no definitive right or wrong in writing your artistโs statement, but it should be concise… The main purpose of an artistโs statement is to augment your artistic practice. This could be by offering background information, an explanation of your process, or any other information that will enhance the critical understanding of your work. – from The Practical Art World
ARTIST CV
The Curriculum Vitae or CV is essentially an artistโs resume outlining previous exhibitions, publications, press, and more. Donโt have much professional experience? Check out How to write an artistโs CV when you donโt have much (or any!) professional experience. – from The Practical Art World
EXHIBITION PROPOSAL
The difference between an artist statement and a written proposal is that your artist statement focuses on your artwork and practice in general, and a written proposal is a specific plan for an exhibition. A written proposal should include:
a brief overview of the concept behind the show
number of works and description of works to be included
a rough timeline
specifics of installation
short biography of the artist(s) and if applicable, curator(s) involved
