Helpful Hints: Definitions & Links

ARTIST BIO / STATEMENT

Your artist statement is an opportunity to explain the background and process of the work you are including on your art gallery submissions. There is no definitive right or wrong in writing your artistโ€™s statement, but it should be concise… The main purpose of an artistโ€™s statement is to augment your artistic practice. This could be by offering background information, an explanation of your process, or any other information that will enhance the critical understanding of your work. – from The Practical Art World

ARTIST CV

The Curriculum Vitae or CV is essentially an artistโ€™s resume outlining previous exhibitions, publications, press, and more. Donโ€™t have much professional experience? Check out How to write an artistโ€™s CV when you donโ€™t have much (or any!) professional experience. – from The Practical Art World

EXHIBITION PROPOSAL

The difference between an artist statement and a written proposal is that your artist statement focuses on your artwork and practice in general, and a written proposal is a specific plan for an exhibition. A written proposal should include:

  • a brief overview of the concept behind the show
  • number of works and description of works to be included
  • a rough timeline
  • specifics of installation
  • short biography of the artist(s) and if applicable, curator(s) involved

Landscape and Sky

Visual Arts Exhibit by Mary Ramsay
Sponsored Exclusively by Veikle Agro Inc.

The Spare Room Gallery launched its visual arts exhibition space with life-long area resident Mary Ramsayโ€™s โ€œLandscape and Skyโ€. The pastoral beauty of the rural countryside is explored in acrylics on a variety of materials including canvas, rocks, and sawblades.

FROM THE ARTIST

Living on the farmโ€ฆ we enjoyed watching the changes in the beauty of nature through traveling, sitting at the creek, picking berries, fishing and bringing in the harvest.

In 1987, I enrolled in a few community art classes in Cut Knife. From there, I was totally engaged in the peaceful art of painting. I started with oils, but have used acrylics for many years. My subject matter focuses on landscape and sky. Beyond canvas, I have painted on pails, milk cans, sawblades, rocks and wood to name a few.

– Mary Ramsay

Only a small sample of Mary Ramsay’s exquisite landscapes.
