Lurid Dreams”

Born and raised in Cut Knife, Mรฉtis artist Aleksi Annโ€™s LURID DREAMS uses a vivid colour palette, Saskatchewan-inspired imagery, and a dreamlike perspective to explore intense emotions and feelings of isolation.

Dreams can play tricks on our minds, giving us sensations and images that feel falsely familiar and real. By rooting the imagery aspect of this exhibition in things that remind me of home, I was able to abstract and distort my everyday into dreams. In many ways, the act of painting can feel like being the author of dreams โ€“ โ€“ reality is whatever you make it. โ€“ Aleksi Ann, Artist.

This exhibition is proudly sponsored byย Mรฉtis Nation Saskatchewan.

Coast to Coast: Celebrating Local Archives”

The Coast to Coast exhibition features a selection of artwork from the Clayton McLain Memorial Museum and Archives, a number of local history books from the Cut Knife Library โ€“ Lakeland Division and treasured pieces from the private collections of local residents.

BC Indian Village by J.W.C Macdonald

Coast to Coast displays a variety of media from a wide range of artists. All pieces have a connection to the Cut Knife area. Some of the artists had roots here; some of the subject matter is central to the history here; other pieces were collected from other places and brought here. All artwork is described within the context of its historical narrative, which adds another dimension to the piece itself. Enjoyโ€ฆ

Artists represented are: Delilah Myrtle Atton, Shirley Marilyn Buday, Sidney Herbert Barker, Richard Lindemere, W.R. MacAskill, J.W.C Macdonald, R. McLeod, Joanne Patricia Shivak, and Unknown.

BLESSINGS”

Marcella Pedersen is an award-winning stitcher whose practice began at the age of 10. Inspired by her auntโ€™s Bobbin Pin Lace, and taught embroidery stitches by her mother, Marcella has spent a lifetime creating works of art recognized for their skill and their beauty.

โ€œWith machine embroidery and factories making our clothing, hand embroidery seems to have lost its popularityโ€ฆโ€ She wanted to learn as many kinds of embroidery before they were lost all together. Now that she is involved with the Embroiderersโ€™ Association of Canada, she is not as worried anymore and has seen a growing interest in embroidery. โ€“ from โ€œBefore it is Lost: Thirty Stiches, by Marcella Pedersen, Artist.

HANDS”

Chris Hodge was initially an abstract painter influenced by the simple yet deep texture of his prairie surroundings. More recently, he has been investigating figure work and portraits as an extension of the abstractions. The pieces in Hands could be considered semi-abstract as the shapes and colours are not natural but designed to elicit emotions in the observer.

Our hands are the vehicle by which we engage the world around us. Whether creating, caressing, destroying or other activities, our hands are an integral part of the process...

Colour and simplicity are my main concerns when painting and I like to use layers of paint, hopefully leaving a deep impression on the viewer. โ€ โ€“ Chris Hodge, Artist.
