Events

July 9, 10 & 11 at Poundmaker Lake

ALL WELCOME TO ATTEND

The Poundmaker Indigenous Performance Festival was established in 2018 by organizer Floyd Favel. Originally a celebration of the talent and diversity of local Indigenous performers, it has expanded to include Indigenous cultures and diverse theatre practices from around the world. 2024’s program hasn’t yet been released, but last year’s festival included a Greek tragedy, cultural lectures, Plains Indian sign language workshops, and performances of poetry and spoken word.

More on last year’s Festival in this July 2023 article from the Saskatoon StarPhoenix.

Floyd Favel is the Curator of the Chief Poundmaker Museum but has spent much of his life as a theatre professional, a writer, and a filmmaker.

“I went to school in Denmark and Italy working in the realm of theatre as a writer and as a director, but I moved back to my community in the 1990s”… He has also written a few books and produced two films on the Delmas Residential School.

On June 19, Favel will be awarded the 2024 Saskatchewan Award of Merit for “his commitment to helping to revive the arts, culture and language in his Poundmaker Cree Nation community.” Read more from Battlefords Now.

Floyd Favel asked the CMMM to share this year’s Festival poster, and we are happy to do so. We encourage everyone to check out the program once it’s available and make plans to attend a performance or lecture. If last year is any indication, there’ll be something for everyone!

Performances will be held at the Culture Lodge venue at Poundmaker Lake.
